Coaching FAQs

Whe are the benefits of becoming a team coach?

Coaching offers the chance to help others grow, develop your own leadership and communication skills, feel a strong sense of achievement, be part of a close-knit team, learn from experienced coaches, and give back to the sport of netball and the wider community.

How old do I need to be to coach?

There is no specific minimum age set by Netball Australia for coaching. Most clubs require a reasonable level of experience and knowledge of the game, along with a Working with Children Check. Coaches of younger age groups may need additional child development and safety training.

What support is available for new coaches?

Netball Australia provides accreditation courses, coaching manuals, practice plans and drills. SHNC and state associations offer mentoring programs, workshops, seminars and conferences. New coaches also benefit from a peer support network of experienced club coaches.

Do I need qualifications to apply?

Not necessarily. While experience is valued, SHNC welcomes enthusiastic first-time coaches. We'll work with you to obtain any required accreditation and provide mentoring throughout the season. A Working with Children Check is mandatory for all coaches.
